Here are some things to check before ordering a birth certificate online to make sure you are buying direct from the government and not from a third-party company.

Lowest prices

ServiceOntario has the lowest prices. Certificates range from $15 to $75 depending on the type of certificate or service delivery method.

Fastest delivery

Regular online service: 15 business days plus delivery by Canada post

Premium online service (rush): 5 business days by courier

Check the status of your order

When you order a certificate from ServiceOntario you can check the status of your order 1 day after submitting it.

Service delivery

Regular online service: in the mail within 15 business days.

Premium online service: delivered to you within 5 business days.

How to tell you’re not on a government website

Official government websites like ServiceOntario.ca will display these logos

Only government-authorized websites and partners have the right to use these.

You are buying from a third-party company and not ServiceOntario if you see a statement saying something like this

• We are not a government agency
• We are not affiliated with any government agency
• We are a private company

Third-party companies must have a statement on their website clearly identifying that they are not affiliated with the government. You can usually find these statements on the home page, about us page, or the terms and conditions page.
